Just added my first package to rPath.

The repository is fish.rpath.org@rpl:1 and all it's got is fish (command line shell) for the moment.
I want to add wwwoffle later to the repository. Maybe the repository name was a bad choice, now that I'll try to add wwwoffle too? Humm...

Just did 'conary updateall' and I'm running openoffice 2.0 and NO kdelibs installed ;)

To my surprise, today my 'conary updateall' said:

Why? I don't have a single kde package installed and to me it makes no sense that openoffice should depend on kdelibs... humm

Proxy again

Why is this happening to me everytime I'm behind a proxy?

I can do conary update group-dist and some more... But whenever I try to update something from drivers or from the orleans repository I get errors. Humm

Some changes I'd like to see.
When a file is in the way of an update, as it was the case, conary stops.
Maybe it should ask if the file should be changed by a new one, or keep the current file.

It made me a bit angry to move some files (/etc/issue, /etc/distro-release and /etc/issue.net) out of the way in order to do an update. And it made me more angry to see that it weren't extreme config files. :)

chroot

When I chroot into my rpath mount point and after mounting /proc, I can't do any update at all.
Is this on purpose or a mistake in conary checking?

The error is this one: Error -3 while decompressing data: incorrect header check

Help, I'm behind a proxy

Figured out why I couldn't get any package from contrib or orleans repository.
Today I came home and to my surprise contrib started working. Why? I have no clue... Is contrib using another port or something? Probably it's because in university I'm behind a proxy. Still, it's strange because I can get to conary.rpath.com... :(

conary-gui

Whenever I tried conary-gui, the same error was appearing: "No module named conarycfg".
I opened /usr/bin/conary-gui and the PYTHONPATH was referring to python2.2 ???
Well,a minor change from python2.2. to python2.4 and adding /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/conary to PYTHONPATH solved the problem :)

One thing I'm a bit dissapointed is the rpath contrib repository. I wasn't able, a single time, to access to it. No clue whatsoever for this behaviour...

In the overall, I like conary. Yesterday, after a few beers I tried to do 2 troves. One for wwwoffle and another one for z-shell. (I know z-shell is in contrib, but I can't update anything from contrib :()

strange /home

When I do 'conary update ipw2200=drivers.rpath.org@rpl:devel' I'm getting tired of getting this:

I wonder why rPath is mounting my /home with user and group 1000. Humm I'd love to actually share my /home from debian with rPath without doing all the time 'chown nml /home/nml' and 'chgrp nml /home/nml'.

My /etc/fstab is ok because the /home entry is equal to the debian one...

Fresh rPath

Well, installed rPath again :)

The installer said FAIL in every check to the cd's. Is something wrong? Maybe the checksum?

Anyway, I continued the install until I got to the partitioner.
I said that I wanted to format a partition using vfat and to be mounted in /mnt/share.
Surprise, surprise, it failed in the next step, saying /dev/hda1 not mounted, probably not formatted. Humm? Strange. And in the end, didn't let me go back. It just asked me to reboot.

Started over again, and this time, no cd check and no /mnt/share. All went fine ;)

The first thing I did was 'conary update glibc' then 'conary erase glibc' and all went well
You (Joseph Tate and some Anonymous guy) we're right. I don't have a clue of what happened.

Here's why:

If you've been unable to access rBuilder Online earlier today, blame it on that unknown force that causes two inherently-incompatible things to be attracted to each other

It is a bit difficult to do a 'conary update package' when www.rpath.com is down. It just sits there trying to load and nothing happens... :(

Humm, just did 'conary erase glibc'.

Although you are probably thinking "What the fuck did he do??? And why?", it has an explanation.
In debian, when I try to do something as stupid as that, debian warns me. I just wanted to check whether conary has that type of safe checking. It has not and now I'm using Foresight for a moment.

I'm going to stick with Foresight for a while, so I'll publish here my experience with it. It is based in rPath, so I don't think it will make a big of a difference. Maybe I'll try 'conary erase conary' LOL ;)

Conary

Started experimenting with conary and I did not like the experience.
I'm very used to apt-get and conary felt a bit less featured.

I tried to do 'conary q kernel*' and what was returned was 'error: kernel* is not installed'.
Humm, ok, did another try like 'conary q kernel' and I was successful. :)

I'm gonna try conary a bit more and provide some feedback then.
By the way, how do I get the info of some package in a "repository"?

Installing rPath

Today I did a full install of rPath 0.70.
Pretty installer with a fresh look made debian installer look ugly.
I guess it will be the next step in Ubuntu. Make a pretty installer. Anyway, I'm here to talk about rPath.

I had no difficulties installing it. The partitioner was ok and the rest pretty straight-forward.
In the end, I rate the install with 4.2 in 5 :)
